About Our AC Repair and AC Tuneup Services in Sacramento

It starts with your annual maintenance and tune ups. The absolute best way to make sure that you are less likely to need AC repair and maintain a working air conditioner is to get a regular tuneup at least once, if not twice a year. We have a club program that provides this, testing and tweaking every single function on your HVAC and ensuring that any issues are promptly addressed.

But if you do need AC repair, we are here to help. We make every effort to ensure that your air conditioner is functioning properly, utilizing:

  • State of the Art Diagnostics – We have several electronic tools that help us determine if every single component, including those that we cannot see, is properly functioning. If we do determine there is an issue, we’ll look for the most conservative and effective way to address quickly.
  • Comprehensive Repairs – Any time we provide AC repairs, we will make sure that the problem is thoroughly fixed. We know how important it is for you to feel confident that you have a working AC, and our team will make every effort they can to thoroughly and completely repair any issue your air conditioner may experience.
  • Low, Transparent Pricing – We do our best to keep our costs as low as possible. We know that you’re already worried about your AC, and we know how expensive air conditioners and their repair can be. We’ll make every effort to keep prices low, keep you informed about why our prices are what they are, and always perform the most cost effective work we can.

We also know how important it is to find someone fast when you have a problem with your air conditioner, because every day you wait is a day that you are struggling with discomfort. It can even, in some cases, be dangerous. We will do anything we can to come to your property as fast as possible provided our technicians are available, so that you don’t have to struggle with the intense heat.

We know and work with essentially any and all major AC brands, including Rheem, Carrier, Ruud, Bryant, Lennox, Goodman, Mitsubishi Electric, and Trane. We also know how to work with much older air conditioners and new ones. Should you ever need an AC replaced, we also have some of the best prices on air conditioners and HVAC systems, giving you a new AC at a competitive price.

What Broke?

Air conditioners are large, expensive pieces of equipment that require a lot of working parts. If you look at an AC, it may appear to be a simpler piece of technology (it can often look like a big fan), but the mechanics that go into these – especially if you include the rest of the HVAC, which can also play a role in the effectiveness of the AC – can be substantial. These are engineered with a variety of working parts, and each part needs to be working properly for it to continue to function.

This is especially true of ACs in Sacramento. That is because it gets so hot here that many of us have our air conditioners quite literally running 24 hours a day during peak season. If any small part is even a little bit broken, it can ruin the entire system. Some of the most common parts to break include:

  • Compressors – Acting as the core of the air conditioning system, compressors circulate refrigerant through the coils to enable heat exchange. Common causes of compressor failure are low refrigerant levels, refrigerant overcharge, inadequate lubrication, or prolonged operation. Neglected maintenance and dirty coils may also cause the compressor to overheat. Indicators of a malfunctioning compressor include noisy operation, reduced cooling efficiency, or complete failure to turn on.
  • Capacitors – Capacitors play a crucial role in storing energy to start the motor and maintain its operation. They can deteriorate due to power surges, overheating, or regular wear and tear, with susceptibility increasing in hot climates. This is because frequent starts put additional stress on them. Symptoms of capacitor failure include unusual clicking sounds from the air conditioner, failure to start, or the motor halting soon after activation.
  • Fan Motors – These motors drive the fans that facilitate air movement across the evaporator and condenser coils, crucial for effective heat transfer. Fan motors typically fail due to the accumulation of dirt and debris, which can obstruct fan operation and increase motor strain. Additional factors contributing to fan motor failure include worn belts and defective bearings. Signs of fan motor issues are weak airflow, strange noises, or the unit overheating.
  • Refrigerant Lines – These lines transport refrigerant between the indoor and outdoor units of an AC system. Leaks in refrigerant lines can arise from corrosion, physical damage, or improper installation, with vibrations and temperature changes potentially weakening joints and connections over time. Symptoms of leaking refrigerant lines include diminished cooling efficiency, hissing noises, or ice accumulation on the compressor.

Other issues may not require repair, but could lead to larger problems. For example, if you’re noticing water leaks in your system, check the air filter. Air filters are essential for purifying incoming air and shielding the AC unit from debris that could block the coils. While air filters do not break in a conventional sense, they can become clogged without regular replacement or cleaning. This clogging can diminish airflow and system efficiency. Indications of a clogged air filter include ice formation on the coils, decreased cooling capability, and higher energy usage.

Our Process

When faced with a broken AC, the most important thing is the diagnosis. One thing to be aware of is that a problem with one part of the AC may not be the reason that the AC is not working. For example, if you have a leak in your system due to an improperly functioning compressor, it can cause your fan to short out. Replacing your fan may be necessary, but it doesn’t solve the entire problem. You still need to fix the compressor to prevent the fan from blowing out again.

Addressing these issues requires a step by step analysis of the entirety of your AC and HVAC system, even if we know specifically what part of it is going wrong. We do this by:

  • Talking to the Homeowner – We do want to hear from you to know if you heard anything or saw any issues prior to the AC no longer functioning.
  • Visually Inspecting the Entire AC – Even if we spot a problem right away, we need to first review the entire air conditioner to see if there are any other issues we notice, or any other signs of damage that need to be addressed.
  • Testing and Analysis – In addition to the visual inspection, which is already quite thorough, we also use a variety of electronic tools that help us check everything from electrical components to refrigerant levels to airflow. We will measure how effectively the AC is cooling the air (if it is still functioning) or if we can identify any efficiency issues that may be affecting your unit.

There are some situations where the problem is actually quite easy to solve. For example, there may be an issue with a loose wire that causes the AC to stop working, or we notice that everything will work with some alterations to the air flow. But other times, the issue may be more significant, and require a more extensive repair. We are here to address any issue your AC has and com eto you both with recommendations and solutions to help address and cool your home.

Our AC Repair Process

Every air conditioner is different, and every AC is likely to have unique needs that we need to address. A broken fan motor, or a fault compressor, or leaking refrigerant are not all repaired the same way even when they’re the same issue, because no two air conditioners are alike.

As soon as we find the problem, our technician will:

  • Thoroughly explain what we found, what likely happened, and what the repair process will be like.
  • Inform you of all prices, any risks, the state of your air conditioner and what the next steps will be even after the AC is repaired.
  • Every AC has different parts, so we will either go get the part from our vehicle or order it from a supplier. We will notify you of the extra time to arrival should we need to order a part, and always do what we can to try to get it to you as fast as possible so that you’re not living in any discomfort.
  • We will then make the repairs, and then continue to check the AC along the way to make sure that we did not miss anything.
  • As soon as the repairs are completed we will test the entire HVAC system again – not just the AC, but the heating as well, to make sure that it’s all working properly.
  • After we’re finished, we will let the homeowner know if there is anything else for them to look for, how they can help maintain their repaired AC, and when they should consider getting a replacement AC or HVAC system based on the health of their current system.

We also want you to feel welcome to ask questions at any time. If you’re curious what we’re doing or you’d like to learn more about your AC, we’re happy to answer your questions and make sure that you feel informed.
