Insights into Our Sacramento Roofing Services

Your roof significantly impacts your property’s overall energy efficiency, accounting for approximately 15% to 25% of its total energy performance. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the interior temperature while serving as a vital defense mechanism for your home. Even a minor leak can precipitate a cascade of issues, such as water damage, flooding, and pest infiltration.

Understanding the critical nature of roofing, our skilled technicians at Cal Energy provide timely and efficient roofing repair, replacement, and installation services across the Greater Sacramento area. Our roofing solutions encompass:

  • Aluminum Roofing – Known for its lightweight characteristics, aluminum roofing facilitates easy installation and puts less stress on your property’s structural integrity. It is highly resistant to corrosion and weather conditions, including moisture and temperature fluctuations. Furthermore, aluminum roofing offers fire resistance and non-combustibility.
  • Steel Roofing – Offering unique benefits distinct from aluminum, steel roofing is recognized for its exceptional durability and minimal maintenance requirements. While it may be susceptible to corrosion, protective coatings can alleviate this concern. Like aluminum, steel roofing also provides high fire resistance.
  • Composite Roofing – This category includes a broad range of materials, from asphalt shingles and wood shakes to synthetic composites. These materials offer versatility and can adapt to various architectural styles. Asphalt shingles provide durability and color variety, while wood shakes offer natural aesthetics and insulation. Synthetic composites excel in durability and weather resistance.

We strongly believe in metal roofing above all else. Its energy efficiency, combined with its longevity, makes it an ideal choice for those that are interested in roofing in Sacramento.

Energy Efficiency with Metal Roofing

As a roofing company committed to energy efficiency, we often endorse metal roofing for its long-term benefits in reducing both your carbon footprint and energy costs. Metal roofing offers a high level of solar reflectance and emissivity, which lowers heat absorption and promotes rapid heat dissipation, respectively. Compared to composite roofing materials, metal roofing is generally more energy-efficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I expect my roof to last?

The condition and life span of your roof will depend on the type of roof you have, the effects of your local environment and the maintenance which the roof has received. According to the American Society of Home Inspectors, asphalt shingles generally last 15-20 years; wood shingle/shakes 10-40 years; clay/concrete tiles 20+ years; slate 30-100 years; metal roofing 15-40+ years. Roofing product manufacturers offer a variety of warranties on their products. Take a close look at those warranties to see what responsibilities and financial obligations they will assume if their products fail to reach their
expected lifetimes.

My roof leaks. Do I need to have it totally replaced?

Not necessarily. Leaking can result because some flashings have come loose, or because a section of the roof has been damaged. A roof failure, however, is generally irreversible and results from improper installation or choice of materials, or from the installation of a roof system inappropriate to the building.

How can a homeowner recognize when a roof has problems?

All too often, roof problems are discovered after leaking or other serious damage occurs. Periodic (twice-a-year) inspections can often uncover cracked, warped or missing shingles, loose seams and deteriorated flashings, excessive surface granules accumulation in the gutters or downspouts and other visible signs of roof problems. Indoors, look for cracked paint, discolored plasterboard and peeling wallpaper as signs of damaged roof areas.

What is Radiant Barrier?

A radiant barrier is a layer of aluminum foil placed in an airspace to block radiant heat transfer between a heat-radiating surface (such as a hot roof) and a heat-absorbing surface (such as conventional attic insulation).

Do you use subcontractors?

Yes, we use Nutmeg as our tear off company. We have used them for over 10 years, they are licensed, bonded and insured. We often use Sweda, a Gutter Company, that has also been with us for over 10 years, licensed bonded and Insured. The installers of your roof are OUR employees whom have 8 + years of experience. Theses guys are extremely competent and are closely supervised by Mike Cercel who has over 30+ years experience in Roofing. Together our team insures a quality job. We stand behind our work!

What is a ridge vent? Do I have to have it?

A ridge vent is part of the exhaust ventilation system that helps circulate hot air and moisture from your attic to the exterior of the house and provides for more energy efficient heating and air conditioning. Moisture can build up in your attic by way of the kitchen and bathroom, eventually causing damage to the roof deck and framing. A ridge vent reduces heat and moisture in your attic saving you problems later on. Good ventilation help prevent rotting, mildew, drywall damage, peeling paint and warped siding. When combined with eave vent it provides the most effective ventilation system available. Every home should have a ridge vent or one of several other types ventilating system installed. A ridge vent is considered the most excellent system for attic ventilation.

 What is a roofing square?

A roofing square is a unit of roof measure covering 100 square feet.

Why should I tear off my old roofing?

Roofing over a bumpy material will telegraph through the new roof. Tearing off the old shingles will assure that your roof deck is in good condition and not the source for future problems. Tearing off the old shingles will provide access for installing new leak barriers in eaves and valleys around penetrations. With the old shingles gone, we’ll be able to install new metal flashing which is essential to a new roof.

How long will it take to put on a new roof?

The duration of the job varies widely depending on the size and complexity of the job. A small, uncomplicated roof job can usually be finished in a day or two. A large, complex project can last a week or more. Our estimator can answer any question you may have concerning your roof, the cost and duration of the job. Please call us at 916-663-3387 or 530-887-0447 for a free estimate.

Can I walk on any roof?

Yes & No. It depends on what type of roof you have. Typically Tile is No. Many of our Metal Roofs are lightweight and walkable.

Do you put in skylights/solar tubes/house fans and blown in insulation?

Yes, we can accommodate all of these needs.

Do you accept credit cards or offer financing?

We are happy to accept credit cards. Please ask us about other financing options which may result in even greater savings and tax advantages.
